COMING HOME: The Odyssey and the Second Half of Life

COMING HOME:  The Odyssey and the Second Half of Life

An initiatory retreat for men and women

With William Ayot and Juliet Grayson

It’s fashionable to talk in terms of life journeys, but the great underlying myths of our culture(s) speak of a deeper quest of the soul, and its turning for home in the second half of life. This retreat explores one of the great proto-myths of the west, The Odyssey, in which the archetypal hero Odysseus, having brought the Trojan War to an end, embarks on an epic journey of yearning, challenge, distraction, loss and eventual homecoming.   Through group work, exercises, story, poetry and ritual we will follow this archetypal journey of initiation.  We will discover where we stand in relation to our own inner path, uncovering the signposts and hidden ways of our own whole-hearted return and homecoming.

William Ayot is an award-winning poet, teacher and ritualist. He worked in rehab during the nineties, and organised large scale men’s events, while studying the methodology of indigenous shamans, and leading initiatory Rites of Passage.   As a co-founder of Olivier Mythodrama, using story, poetry and ritual, he taught leadership around the world for over a decade. He currently teaches, coaches, and creates private rituals for individuals and groups. His writing includes three collections of poetry and his latest book, Re-enchanting the Forest: Meaningful Ritual in a Secular World. William is an FRSA and a member of the Welsh Academi.  Juliet and William are married, having been together for over twenty years.

Juliet Grayson is an experienced psychotherapist and workshop leader, specialising in relationship and sexual problems.  Her work has been distilled out of a thirty-year exploration of the ways in which people limit themselves, both personally and professionally.  Juliet’s work is grounded, warm, fun and she is willing to challenge those behaviours that call for a change.  She is a fully qualified psychosexual psychotherapist and supervisor (UKCP Accredited, NLPtCA,  COSRT & PBSP). She published her first book: Landscapes of the Heart: the working world of a sex and relationship therapist in 2016.  She is co-founder and Chair of StopSO: The Specialist Treatment Organisation for the Prevention of Sexual Offending.
