Online PBSP Groups

At present (December 2021) Juliet does not have any of these planned for 2022

PESSO BOYDEN EXPERIENTIAL TWO DAY GROUPS ONLINE

Juliet has found a way to run PBSP groups online. Rather than the usual Zoom Rooms – she does it on Zoom webinars instead. This format has panelists – who are in the ‘main room’ and can be seen and heard, and attendees – who are not able to be seen or heard. Juliet moves partcipants between the two roles (panelist and attendee) during the workshop. For the check in, check out and sharing – everyone is a panelist. During a structure, just the client and therapist are panelists, and eveyone else is an attendee. If someone is asked to play a role, such as the Ideal Mother, they are promotoed to a panelist, so they can be seen and heard.  The days run from 8.45am – approx 5.45pm GMT

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU NEED FOR ONLINE WORKSHOPS
> A clear diary for the length of the workshop (1 day or 2 days) – where you don’t have to pick up your children, the phone is switched off, and you have two days completely clear of all work and household committments
> A quiet space where the phone is switched off, you will not be interrupted or have people walking across the background
> Some people like to use headphones for privacy
> It is best to use a laptop rather than a phone or tablet
> It’s a good idea to have a box of tissues nearby, a glass of water, and a comfortable chair!
> It is important to have a good signal. Be close to your router – hard wired if possible
> Close down all other google pages and software that might be using wifi bandwidth

WHEN A STRUCTURE STARTS: ONLINE
Just before the structure starts Juliet sets it up so that just the client and Juliet are panelists, and everyone is an attendees (i.e. they are not visible on the main screen). Juliet also has a screen that she uses solely for placeholder(s) and doing holes in roles work. Thus we start with 3 screens. Juliet as therapist, the client and the placeholders / holes in roles screen.
When the client wants to enrol a figure to represent the voice of an ideal parent, let’s say an ideal mother,
> the client chooses the person
> Juliet changes their role from an attendee to a panelist, so they come into the main room and they can be seen and heard
> They rename themselves on their screen ‘Ideal Mother’
> The client chooses and enrols pillows/blankets etc to represent the Ideal Mother in the right place for them in the room they are in
> The person role-playing the Ideal Mother on the screen provides the voice for the client to hear, and eyes for the client to look into (if the client wants, Juliet can spotlight the ideal mother while they are talking – this makes her the main thing on the screen).

OBJECTS THE CLIENT WILL GATHER TO REPRESENT THE IDEAL FIGURES ONLINE (YOU DON’T NEED ALL OF THESE)
Clients are asked to have available a selection of things they can use to represent the Ideal Parents, for example:
> very large cushions are really useful to represent an ideal parent(s)
> long body pillow or bolster is good to represent an ideal parent(s)
> bean bag(s) and or wheat bag(s) (eg used for neck pain – these are on ebay for about £5) can represent the hand of an ideal parent, or their arm
> weighted blanket if you have one (I bought one for £20)
> soft blanket(s)
> a scarf or selection of scarves
The one proviso, is that no object should be ‘loaded’.  In other words, if it is the most precious velvet cushion, hand sewn by your ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend, then we won’t use that.  Or if it was a present from a father that you felt ambivalent towards, again, it might be best not to use that.  Please only bring neutral objects – scarves, cushions, blankets etc.

BEING AN OBSERVER PARTICIPANT IN AN ONLINE GROUP
You will be expected to be there for the whole day (unless you have let Juliet know in advance that you cannot do this).  You will be in the ‘main room’ as a panelist for the check in, for sharing after each structure, and for check out at the end of the day.  You may be asked to play a role, in which case you will be brought (by Juliet) into the main room.  There you will speak the words given to you by Juliet (i.e. you do not have to improvise).  Most people feel a lot of satisfaction from playing roles for other people.   If you’d rather not play a role for some or all of the day, please let Juliet know when booking, and mention this to the group at the start of the day, during the check in.   NB If you have objects with you (cushions, blankets etc) and if you are not in a role, then you can ‘piggy back’ on someone else’s work, imagining what you need to hear from the Ideal Figures, to give you, as an observer, some healing.
