Join other professionals to explore and develop your clinical practice.  This is a practical online workshop that covers all the basics on working with the topic of: Working with Trauma and the Living Body

THIS COURSE IS SUITABLE FOR:  Qualified Counsellors, Psychotherapists, Therapists in Training, as well as coaches and health workers who want to learn more about trauma. In the course we explore how trauma manifests in the body, and how to work with this clinically.

CPD: After you have attended the workshop you will be sent a certificate for 15 hours of continuous professional development, when you fill in the feedback form (the only required fields are your name, email address and date of the workshop).

 Learning outcomes:

  • Define trauma and explore how this may affect clients
  • Identify the role of the Brain and Autonomic Nervous System in embodied traumatic experience
  • Learn about exploring sensations to manage anxiety symptoms
  • Explore and work with the ways that the body participates in traumatic experience using phenomenological inquiry, whilst assessing and managing risk
  • Practise practical and clinical interventions to work with embodied trauma including:
    • Domestic abuse via technology
    • Suicidal ideation,
    • Sexual trauma,
    • Traumatic flashbacks
    • Rupture in therapy
    • Accidents, injuries, and loss of life
    • Secondary trauma / vicarious trauma
    • War and conflict

Trainer: Claire Spiller (UKCP reg.) EAGT, IAAGT, ECP.,

Claire is a Trainer, Clinical Supervisor, Author and UKCP accredited Gestalt Psychotherapist. She is a Doctoral Student at the Metanoia Institute in London and studying Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy with the Center for Somatic Studies in New York City.

Claire has worked as a Trauma-Focused therapist for 15 years and has particular clinical interest in embodied trauma and supporting survivors of traumatic experience through both in-person and remote therapy. She has a background of delivering training in-person and online to multi-agency professionals and counsellors in working with trauma, through exploring being and embodiment. Claire is also a Certified Cyber Therapist and has been working clinically online since 2017. She recently presented her doctoral research into online psychotherapy at the UKCP International Research Conference.

EQUIPMENT YOU WILL NEED:  We will use Zoom, so you would need a computer that has good enough internet access to be able to be online, and in a quiet spot where you won’t be disturbed.  It would be preferable if there are no people walking around in the background. An Iphone can be used in an emergency, but we recommend planning on using a laptop or computer.  Tablets also work, though please be aware that they have less functionality in Zoom.

APPROVED FOR CPD: This course has been approved by NCIP-  National Council Of Integrative Psychotherapists.


CANCELLATIONS: Any request to change (eg defer to alternative dates) or cancel your place at a workshop, that is made at less than 21 days before the course start date will be charged in full.  Any cancellation / amendments / requests to defer before 21 days, will be subject to a 12.5% handling charge.
