The Hidden Face of Shame
A workshop with Juliet Grayson and William Ayot

Monday 14th September: 6-8pm (British Summer Time)

We start this series of monthly explorations into shame with the topic: hiding in plain sight. Shame inhibits the simplest of social interactions, and yet we often fail to recognise it for what it is. In this interactive enquiry into shame, William Ayot and Juliet Grayson peel back the curtains of denial and minimisation that can shield us from the agony of toxic shame. Defining and dissecting the many shades of shame allows us to recognise its insidious effects in ourselves and others.

The Engine of Shame
A Workshop with Juliet Grayson and William Ayot

Mon, 12 October 2020 6 – 8 pm British Summer Time

We continue our monthly exploration with a look at the way shame triggers and induces both our drives and our dysfunction. Behind the success of a thrusting executive or the downcast expression of a shrinking non-achiever, we can often find the same overwhelming shadow of shame. In this interactive event, William Ayot and Juliet Grayson will be exploring what shame can activate – addiction, workaholism violence, perfectionism, or anti-social behavior.   This is a workshop for both therapists AND for members of the general public.

Shame Trauma and Abuse
A Workshop with Juliet Grayson and William Ayot

Thurs 12 November  2020 6 – 8 pm Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)

Our third exploration will focus on the emotional consequences of trauma and abuse. Our relationship to shame can grow out of a single traumatic event, or decades of recurring slights and cruelties. We follow many streams from initiating wounds to internalised self-shaming. Exploring shyness and self-criticism on the one hand, and overt self harm and self-destruction on the other, we shine a light on ways to self-compassion and wholeness.  This is a workshop for both therapists AND for members of the general public.

Shame and Relationships
A Workshop with Juliet Grayson and William Ayot

Thursday 17th December 2020 6-8pm GMT

As the winter holidays loom and families gather, William Ayot and Juliet Grayson continue their exploration of shame, and its inheritance. The closer we get to our family of origin the younger we feel. Old family dynamics and memories of past gatherings layer our experience and can poison the best of occasions. In these circumstances, isolation, loneliness, resentment and past shames can be pointers towards understanding, compassion and genuine healing.  This is a workshop for both therapists AND for members of the general public.

Shame and Betrayal
A Workshop with Juliet Grayson and William Ayot

Monday 11th January 2021 6-8pm GMT

Like the cruelest of conjurer’s tricks, betrayal leaves us exposed and belittled. The shame of betrayal erodes trust and leaves us prey to feelings of hopeless revenge and bitter cynicism. Both betrayed and betrayer find themselves in an ugly dance as they renegotiate (or flee from) broken relationships, their sense of identity, and their damaged views of the world. Avoiding false forgiveness, it is possible, by unpicking the shame of the experience, to begin to rebuild and move forward.  This is a workshop for both therapists AND for members of the general public.
