Diploma in Clinical Supervision and Consultancy 2027-2028

Clinical Supervision and Consultancy Training (12 Days) With Bernd Leygraf

Approved for CPD by the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists

Supervision is not Oversight –
it’s Insight, reflection and growth

Course Description

This 12-day online training “Certificate in Clinical Supervision and Consultancy” facilitated via Zoom, provides a comprehensive foundation for practitioners wishing to develop their skills as clinical supervisors and consultants, whether they work with individuals, relationships or teams.

Designed for therapists, counsellors, coaches, and other professionals, the course introduces participants to key frameworks, models, and practices in supervision. While the program covers supervision across a wide range of clinical contexts, it offers a limited but focused exploration of supervising sexuality and relationship issues, supporting participants to approach these often complex and sensitive areas with greater confidence and clarity. It is a Level 7 training.

The Philosophy

The philopsophy of this training is primarily idiosyncratic (Clarkson 2010) recognising that the primary vehicle for the therapy  (and supervisory) work is the relationship in itself,in which the practitioner brings their intentional use  of self.  It is also rooted in an understanding that that many supervisors may well work across different theoretical orientations as well as within their  own theoretical stance.

Learning Approach

The training combines theoretical teaching, experiential exercises, and live practice. Participants will have the opportunity to both offer and receive supervision within a supportive peer-learning environment, allowing them to develop their supervisory style while reflecting on their own professional practice.

Key Areas of Focus

  • Core principles and responsibilities of supervision
  • Ethical frameworks and boundaries in supervisory relationships
  • Contracting and managing supervisory alliances
  • Methods and models of clinical supervision
  • Working with difference and diversity in supervision
  • Exploring and dealing with dual roles / conflicts of interest
  • Integrating consultancy skills into professional practice
  • Exploring supervision of sexuality and relationship issues (limited focus)
  • Developing reflective practice and self-awareness as a supervisor

Format

  • Delivery: Online via Zoom
  • Duration: 4 days of live, interactive training across 4 modules
  • Contact Hours: 84 hours of live training
  • Guided Learning: 114 hours
  • Style: A blend of theory, group work, demonstrations and practical skills development

About the Trainer: Bernd Leygraf

Consultant Psychotherapist co-founded a number of organisations (London Men’s Forum, UK Standing Conference on Sexual Abuse of Men, the Centre for Personal and Professional Development, the Whittington Hospital Psychotherapy Clinic, the Hungarian Gestalt Association, NAOS Institute). He co-authored with Judi Keshet-Orr the first MSc in Humanistic Psychotherapy and the first Masters programme in Psychosexual & Relationship Therapy in the UK. He also authored or co-authored, as well as led, several masters programmes in the UK, primarily at South Bank University, Middlesex University, Westminster and the University of Surrey. He was external examiner to various universities in the UK.

A former Chair of the Professional Standards and Accreditation Board at the European Association for Counselling, and Ethics Committee of COSRT, Bernd works currently with trainees, from over 40 countries. He is familiar with and interested in working with issues of cultural difference.  His principal influences in sexological and couples work are David Schnarch, Joseph Zinker, Ellen Bader, Judith Hemming, Joan Lachkar, Judi Keshet-Orr and, as ever, his clients.

In 2023 Bernd was given the Liz McElligot Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession of Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy and for the support and guidance he has provided to the field.

Bernd is proud to have supported – alongside Judi – a significant number of sex and couples therapists in shaping their own professional identities and careers – both in the UK and further afield; some even have moved into offering specialist sex addiction clinics; others are now trainers in this field in their own right.

Bernd is delighted to be (founder and) Honorary Member of the Hungarian Gestalt Association. Clinically speaking Bernd focuses on working with celebrity clients, and on men in leadership, both nationally and globally.
